As a frequent traveler, I’ve noticed a growing frustration: tipping and hidden fees are everywhere! From resort and baggage fees to digital prompts for tipping on takeout coffee, it feels like we’re constantly being asked to pay more often for services that were once included.
I’m all for rewarding great service but wouldn’t it be better if businesses simply paid fair wages and offered transparent pricing? Many of us would prefer to know the real cost of a hotel stay or a meal upfront — not discover an extra charge for parking after booking.
These added costs don’t just strain our wallets — they erode trust. If I had my way, transparent pricing would be required upfront, no surprises. This kind of clarity would earn my loyalty every time.
That’s why I’m especially fond of brands like Explora Journeys and Virgin Voyages. They’ve redefined luxury by removing the hidden costs: tips, dining, Wi-Fi — even wellness programs are included. (Virgin does offer an optional Bar Tab for cocktails, but it’s clearly stated — no surprises.)
