When I’m curating hotels for clients, I don’t just look at the view, the pool, or the location. I look closely at the bathroom—because it’s where comfort, safety, and daily ease really show up.
Bathroom features that elevate the whole trip
A well-designed bathroom can turn a good stay into a truly restorative one… and for multigenerational trips, it can make the difference between “manageable” and effortless.
Heated floors – A small luxury that feels huge, especially on early mornings or cooler destinations.
Large walk-in showers (especially for mobility concerns) – More space, less slipping risk, easier access—and often the best option for travelers who prefer not to step into a tub.
Bidet – Once you travel with one, it’s hard to go back. They’re a comfort upgrade that many travelers quickly become loyal to.
Deep bathtubs – Perfect for relaxing after long travel days, city touring, or beach time. (Bonus: great for parents with little ones, too.)
Double sinks – A game-changer for couples and families getting ready at the same time—less waiting, less stress, smoother mornings.
Mood lighting / night lighting -This is one of my favorite “quiet luxury” details—safer late-night bathroom trips for seniors (and honestly, for anyone who doesn’t want harsh overhead lights).
Why this matters even more for multigenerational travel
For trips with grandparents, teens, and everyone in between, bathroom design impacts:
• Safety (especially at night)
• Independence (for older travelers or anyone with mobility needs)
• Efficiency (multiple people sharing a room or suite)
• Recovery (soaking, stretching, and resetting between big days)
My pro tip when booking:
If bathroom comfort matters to you, ask for it upfront. Not all rooms in the same hotel are built the same—room category and renovation history can completely change the experience.
